Kayla Zapata Fory is a media & tech professional on Instagram’s Partnerships team. She is an IGTV/Live Content Specialist and a strong advocate for diversity, blending her core responsibilities with community driven campaigns & programming. Kayla finds the gap and bridges it to develop inclusive spaces whether it’s through recruiting initiatives like Instagram’s partnership with the Sista Circle network of black women professionals or marketing campaigns like Instagram’s Black History Month #shareblackstories that lives on beyond February.
Kayla made the shift to a career in the digital media space after working for two years in Accra, Ghana at an ethical fashion start-up that strived to use fashion as an agent for social change. In this role, she worked closely with PR, operations and marketing sides of house as they worked to change the perceptions of African luxury while empowering women artisans & factory workers. Navigating Accra, she experienced first-hand how Instagram was breaking down barriers for young entrepreneurs and creators of color that could translate URL communities into IRL visibility, which inspired her pivot to join the FB family of apps.
